I am a proud member of AFA from Maryland. I joined and posted my comments some time ago [September 1, 2006 - editor] when I was in the middle of litigation dealing with a grandparent visitation case. My own parents sued me and husband for visitation rights of our three young children. Our middle child is a brittle diabetic and attached to medical equipment 24/7. Any type of stress can make her body attack itself. GP's knew this and still didn't care.

Anyway, myself and husband Glen appealed the trial court's ruling ordering the gp's visitation (even out of state, they live in New Jersey). Glen and I took it all the way to the Maryland Court of Appeals (Supreme Court of Maryland) with the incredible legal leadership of our attorney. The opinion came down January 12, 2007. WE WON! And we actually changed the GPV case law in Maryland strengthening parent's rights. My case (Koshko v Haining) overturned 14 years of Maryland GPV law.

With that being said, the Maryland Family Law Statute 9-102 (GPV law) still has the unconstitutional language not following the new case law or even Troxel for that matter. I have been working on getting this GPV law changed for four years now. My husband and I did do it through case law, but we still need Maryland legislatures to codify the stautes language. If the statutory language stays as is, it will only leave big loopholes once again in the courts to infringe on the rights of fit parents to raise their children without state or governmet interference.

I since have been in contact with many other Maryland parents going through the same issue. They have joined me in my efforts to change the GPV statute. We lobbied last session and got good media attention. My case just came down and the legislation didn't have the time to research for this to come to the table yet. Well, it's coming to the table next session. We already have a Senate Sponsor.

With all this being said, I want Maryland parents that are dealing with this issue or a similar issue to know ~ YOU HAVE A VOICE! Be heard!

Involved in a grandparents visitation lawsuit for more than a year. We are the married fit parents of two children. During the course of litigation, we have been threatened with charges of criminal contempt, ex-parte orders and the removal of our children by the sherrif's department if we do not acquiesce to the litigating grandparent's demands. This is a visitation case, NOT a custody case. We feel our rights as fit parents have been ignored.

The supreme court of the United States agrees with you. (Troxel vs Granville). Of course, the local child protectors don't care about what the Supreme Court says.

I would like to join because I and my husband are being falsely accused of child abuse and neglect by my parents who are trying to take my children away, and CPS is harrassing us and our children even though the initial investigation was closed due to no findings of abuse or neglect. CPS initially told us they had transferred the case out of their department, but I found out today that they pulled my seven-year-old son out of his class to question him about us. Isn't there anything that protects children from being questioned without a parent or lawyer present in the state of Maryland?

CPS has pulled three boys out of school and questioned them three times all with no representation, Disabled school called in complaint based on something they think he said and added allegations to it during the investigation. Our mentally and physically disabled son is being denied representation for any future questioning. Family and children's rights need protecting.

I have found that the Department of Social Services is more secretive than the CIA. They can do what they want and there is nobody to call them on it. No checks and balances. If you make formal complaints as I did, they will try to put you in jail.

I am currently in a fight with the CORRUPT local court system. I am part of a large group of young single mothers in a particular county in Maryland that is being discriminated against in their child custody cases. I plan to organize and take legal actions to try and correct these problems. I know my fight has only 17 years to go in this good old boy's court system, but that is no consolation. I know there are may others out there in my position who need to speak up and demand change.

We will fight to get him back - the grandson being held "medical hostage" by local CPS and being tagged a child in need by the University of Maryland and other local worthless hospitals. Allegations of abuse should be investigated thoroughly before the entire families are devastated by accusations of neglect. Why do these so-called professionals not investigate allegations before "kidnapping" a child from their home and families? What will it take to banish the rights of CPS opposed to the rights of the parents/grandparents/aunts and uncles that truly protect and care for these children? Stop stealing children and endangering them in Foster Care.

I have been displaced from my home and marriage due to an abusive system. My babysitter was conducting group 'therapy' sessions with her children for weeks with role-play and dolls, performing her own interviews at the advice of a Red Rock school district counselor, and brought charges against my husband for sexual abuse of our four-year-old son. The Sheriff's Department in Bastrop dismissed the case due to no criminal intent and lack of evidence, but only after performing a rape kit on my small son. Even after the LAW dismissed the case, CPS is still able to keep me out of my home. I left Texas immediately to keep my children from being placed in foster care, but now wish to come home as the LAW has dropped the case. We have lived in my mother's basement for 5 months. They miss their home, their friends, their school, their toys, but most of all their father. Will they take them from me if I just go home?? I have submitted an administrative review form, but am sure they haven't done anything with it, so I mailed it to the Texas Department of Family Services Chairman, all council members, the governor, the IG, the Congressman and representatives that represent our district. I am looking for a fight, so please publish all of my information. One thing I did find out, they can't do anything from across the state line.

Please DO NOT publish my name or address. [We suffered a] recent intrusion in our life by CPS. (An anonymous call was placed by an old employee of ours, with a grievance.) I detailed my accounting of the events and my desires to obtain copies of any files held by the CPS about or regarding my husband and me, in that email. Although, I have been told by the CPS case worker, that our case will be expunged, I live in fear of these people and are frightened for my children. I don't know if this is over, if it will ever be over, or if my babies are safe. I dread my children going to pre-school now. We have had the same pediatrician since their birth and I now feel they are looking for anything that looks suspicious. I fear someone will take them from me when we are out, they are at school, or even at home. I wake up and say 'Oh my God, the kids have made a mess of the family room. What if someone were to come over?' My trust for everyone is gone. I have yet to receive any follow up materials from this agency from 2 weeks ago. Expungment takes FOUR months. This site has enlightened me and unfortunately made me incredibly fearful.

Mandatory investigative guidelines need to be implemented in all facets of child abuse investigations. Not only to protect children from misleading interviews (interrogations), but those who could potentially be falsely accused. There is too much corruption going on in our state that is being supported at the state and county levels. Protect your rights!

What rights do children have in the United States? My daughter has been physically abused and she is forced to live with her father where this happened. When adults are involved in physical abusive situations an ex-parte is issued and the person that is abusive is removed from the home, why don't the same laws apply for children?

Social Service has kidnapped, is mentally coercing, denying the disability, and therefore civil rights of my 21-year-old, autistic twin sons, ( who are free to do as they choose ), to hold them against their will, (the boys have demanded their freedom to two witnesses, their sister and aunt, as well as having demanded it of their caregiver and social worker). Social Services has also denied them the special services they need, (therapists and nutritionists), so no other professionals will be privy to the fact that their project home director is denying them food as a means of behavior modification. What makes my case different is that SENATOR ROY DYSON is their own COUSIN and their own district's senator, and he has been notified of their abuse long ago and has done nothing to end it or help them in the least !! He will lose his seat if this story gets out. (If this is how he treats his own flesh and blood then heaven help the constituency!!). THEREFORE , there has been the biggest cover-up of this abuse all the way from the local sheriff's office, to The Maryland Disability Law Center, to the D.H.R., to The Attorney General's Office. NO ONE will free these two boys who are not even eligible for that Home if someone in the family accepts the responsibility of their housing, which I and my daughter have sought since the first day they were placed there!!!! There have been NO charges of abuse, neglect, or abandonment and there is NO judge presiding over this case! This has gone on for two years and I haven't even begun to list the atrocities of the Government against my SONS!!! Their own congressman who lives in their neighborhood is tip-toeing around the issue saying: "The is a very delicate situation". The only thing delicate at this point is my sons mental and physical health, and my own due to all of this abuse. Every time my sons do manage to get to a phone and call screaming to be set free, everyone is denied access to them to GET them!!! Please save them. S.S. has denied their autism in writing . I also have their assessment from the school system stating that they are autistic. They aren't even allowing them to pick up the phone or go out with their sister. The Home they are in is also a CHURCH not of our faith, and they have been forced into 24/7 indoctrination along with forced labor by the leaders without pay. They have also used every cult-like tactic in the book to sever all relationships with their family through every vile means of slander, lies, condemnation, and denial of civil rights they can invent. All of this for their social security money and funding for the state that is denying them use of the services they need!! This and so much more is nothing short of TAX-PAYER TERRORISM by the U.S. Government. And, no, that is not too strong of a term to use. Someone has to stop them before my sons are dead, because as the Washington Post told me, "That is the only time anyone may look at these kid's records".
